The Department of Journalism at Sullamussalam Science College came into existence in the year 2014-15 when the college started a novel graduate programme - Bachelor of Vocation in Broadcasting & Journalism, with the financial assistance of University Grants Commission. As the funding from UGC ceased to exist, the programme was shifted to self financing mode in the year 2018. Subsequently, the college de-affiliated the B. Voc programme upon sanctioning of a new generation programme by the Govt of Kerala - a Dual Core programme in Communication and Media & History during 2021-22.
