Third Edition of Heritage Walk

2024-10-19

The Department of History and Journalism organized the third edition of the Heritage Walk on October 19, 2024, aimed at introducing the second-year students of BA Communication and Media & History to the rich historical and cultural heritage of the region.

The walk covered significant historical sites in Calicut, Kappad, and Iringal, giving students a chance to explore and learn about their local history firsthand. The journey began with a visit to Calicut, where students toured key landmarks that reflect the region's historical significance such as Tali Temple, Kuttichira-Mishkal Mosques, Mananchira, SM Street, Anjuman Bagh Parsi Temple, Big Bazar etc.

The group then proceeded to Kappad, the famous beach where Vasco da Gama first landed in India in 1498, a pivotal moment in Indian history. The students explored the historical relevance of the site, learning about the impact of European exploration and the ensuing cultural interactions.

The final stop was Iringal, where students visited the Kunjali Marakkar museum. Throughout the walk, students actively participated in discussions led by faculty members and were encouraged to observe and reflect on the local history that shaped the region’s identity. The walk was not only a learning experience but also an opportunity for students to engage with their heritage in a meaningful and personal way.
